Fall adventures and great books are a perfect match in our homeschool. We’ve just kicked off Term 2 (Term 1 flew by!), and today I’m excited to share our new fall read-alouds, literature picks, biographies, our new some geocaching fun, my latest Fall Freebie and more exciting news!
The kids and I LOVE Geocaching each fall. Here in Idaho, it’s the perfect temperature, leaves showcase God’s beautiful colors, and the trails are less crowded than in the summer months.
Did you know I have a simple Geocaching guide that helps you easily jump right into Geocaching and it’s on sale for $2!
Secondly, here are several new books we have lined up for our fall reading!
After reading aloud Escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library in our morning circle, I decided I was trying too hard hit the middle road for our kids (14 & 10) – needless to say, the book was fine, but I’m ready for a book that with a bit more challenging prose.
It’s often difficult finding books that are great for all three of us, let alone for our children who are four year apart and one who prefers a male protagonist and one who prefers a female protagonist.
So I landed on The Witch of Blackbird Pond for fall. We’ve read several of Elizabeth George Speare books but not this one yet and we’re already several chapters in and really enjoying it.
Our teen is also reading several new books including this simple and short John F. Kennedy Biography with several quality illustrations (a random grab from the library because he always has a biography going!), The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde (with mom), and 7 Habits of a Highly Effective Teen. His other independent literature still includes daily poetry and novels for his Schole discussion group.
We’re also still working through my new Simple Studies: Exploring Political Ideologies with our family at dinner, as we read through Are You Liberal? Conservative? Or Confused?
Our youngest has been on a reading kick lately so I’ve compiled a stack of free read books for her to enjoy at her leisure. Here’s a quick list to each of the books in the image above:
Ranger in Time
Edge of Extinction
Saucy
The Adventures of Laura and Jack (Little House Chapter Book)
Dog Driven
Skunk and Badger
The Midnight Zoo
The Wildes
The Little Rescue Book Series
I do my best to either thoroughly pre-read or vet each book. But as our children get older, sometimes I can barely research a book before they pick it up at the library. I’ve been asked several times to share where I do my research and where I get my inspiration and I hope to share more of this all in detail in the near future.
Lastly, I checked my 2024 reading challenge on Goodreads and found that I’ve already read 96 books so far this year. 😱
I can’t wait to share my 4 and 5 star reads with you soon!
In a few days, I’ll be announcing our NEW LIVE WINTER CLASS Lineup. Want to beat the crowd? Check out our new class selections and grab your child’s seat today.
Oh! And before you leave – Download your Autumn Tree Freebie just because I’m grateful for you!
I hope this has been helpful and I pray you and your family are safe from all the storms and are enjoying your homeschool year!
